Honestly, I was not expecting this album to be very good. Came Back Haunted is cool, as is Copy of A, and I love Everything, but the three of them just didn't create a very strong feeling for the album and at one point kinda thought about cancelling my order (Everything being the single that made me decide to stick with it).
That being said, I'm happy I kept it. The album is much nicer than I anticipated. However, I feel the album is only decent as an album. In other words, most of the songs I feel can't be pulled out of the line up and just randomly listened to. To me, songs like "Disappointed," "Running," "Satellite," or "Various Methods of Escape" need the completion of the whole album to be given a listen or an interesting glow. Where as, if I just want to dig a single song (say a NIN mix or a random shuffle) there's only four songs I feel that can fit the mold - "Everything," "I Would For You," "Find My Way," and "All Time Low."
Now, since my tone seems a bit negative, that's not a bad thing (or a good thing, it just is what it is). And, the only reason I notice this is because when I'm at work I listen to music, but I don't typically play a whole album, but songs that get me motivated to work and whatnot.
The album is quite awesome. I've given it a 5/5 on RYM (which might be a bit generous), my fifth favorite NIN album and it's my third favorite album of the year. So huzzah.
